Slower soil needs more absorption area for the same house. Two identical homes can need very different amounts of pipe in the ground.

Bedrooms, not people

Sizing runs off bedroom count, because that is what the next owner will use. Adding a bedroom later can mean the system is undersized on paper even if nothing changed in practice.

Access and haul

How far the machine has to travel, what has to come down to let it in, and what has to be put back afterwards. Awkward access is quietly expensive.

What is already there

A replacement has to deal with the old system: pumped out, crushed or removed, and properly abandoned. That is a line item, and on some sites a big one.

Ongoing running cost

A powered system has a compressor or a pump on your electricity bill, consumables, and a service schedule. Budget it as a yearly cost, not a one-off.

What the price does not include

Quotes vary in what they cover, and the gaps are where surprises live. Before you compare two numbers, check whether each one includes the site evaluation and design, the permit fee, electrical work to power the system, the initial service or maintenance agreement, landscaping and reinstatement, and removal of the old system. A quote that is missing three of those is not cheaper. It is shorter.
